Te-Toca is an innovative bra designed to educate and empower women through guided self-examinations, promoting breast health awareness and early detection.
The idea for Te-Toca was born from a personal experience at 20 when I discovered a lump in my left breast. This alarming discovery highlighted a gap in my knowledge about my body, breast health and women’s health in general. I realised that many young women, like me, were not educated about conducting self-examinations or recognising their body’s normal state. This motivated me to create a solution that would empower women with the knowledge and tools to take control of their breast health, leading to the development of Te-Toca.
Te-Toca has a specially designed bra, an infographic toolkit, and a digital platform. The bra features unique textured patterns that guide women through the three essential steps of breast self-examination: spiral, radial, and zigzag motions. This tactile guide helps women become familiar with their breasts and detect any abnormalities. The infographic toolkit provides educational materials, including a flyer with detailed instructions and a calendar to track menstrual cycles and remind women to perform monthly self-exams. The digital platform offers educational resources, community support, and workshop opportunities. Women should perform these self-exams monthly, ideally a few days after their period, but many lack the education to do so.
Te-Toca is unique because it is more than just a bra; it’s a comprehensive tool for breast self-examination. The bra features specially designed textured patterns that guide women through the essential steps of self-exams. These tactile guides help women intuitively understand where and how to apply pressure, making self-exams easier and more effective. Unlike any other product on the market, the Te-Toca bra combines functionality with education, aiming to break the taboos surrounding breast self-touching. By integrating this important health practice into a daily routine, Te-Toca empowers women to become familiar with their bodies and proactive about their health. This innovative approach helps demystify self-exams and encourages a positive and open conversation about breast health.
