The Menopause Mindset

Empowering Women Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Rethinking Menopause Care with Remote and Family Support

The Problem

Menopause affects nearly half of the global population, yet 75% of women report it significantly disrupts their lives. Despite its complex symptoms, delayed research, and emotional toll, the topic is still surrounded by stigma and silence. Educational gaps and lack of preparedness limit access to proper care, mental health support, and open dialogue not just for women, but also for their families and partners.

The Approach

Using a human-centered and service design approach, I conducted qualitative research including interviews, co-creation workshops, and journey mapping. I collaborated closely with women, partners, and health professionals to surface needs and barriers, not only from a healthcare lens, but also from relational and emotional perspectives. The aim was to design tools that feel supportive, approachable, and inclusive.

The Design Solution

The result is the Meno Toolkit, a hybrid support system combining digital and analog touchpoints. It includes:

  • A physical kit with a journal, guided exercises, and conversation cards to encourage reflection and connection.
  • An app featuring personalized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) modules, symptom tracking, and on-demand guidance for mental health and daily management.

The toolkit is designed to reduce stigma and foster open communication in a positive, accessible way. Its playful visual identity and multi-sensory materials invite engagement across generations and relationship roles.

The Impact

By blending analog intimacy with digital personalization, the Meno Toolkit empowers women to face menopause with more confidence and less isolation. It strengthens family dynamics, encourages empathy from partners, and promotes emotional resilience. Early testing showed reduced anxiety, improved communication, and greater readiness to face menopausal changes with clarity and compassion.

The Role of Service Design

Service design enabled a systemic and holistic view of the menopause journey, linking physical, emotional, and relational needs into an integrated solution. It helped map pain points and co-create meaningful interventions across both tangible products and digital services. Through this lens, menopause becomes not just a clinical phase, but a shared life transition that can be supported with care, dignity, and design.

Deep thanks to all the women who generously shared their stories, to the partners who listened, and to the research collaborators at Miyara Health for their ongoing support and expertise. Your insights made this project meaningful, grounded, and relevant.
