A service design project to analyse and frame traveller-local interactions, ultimately suggesting a toolbox to support tourism destinations.
With the issues of overtourism, climate change, the quest for more sustainability, the rise of authentic and local offers, and the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis, tourism and the tourism experience are being challenged to be rethought. Within a future tourism setting, opportunities may emerge, putting a higher importance on encounters with people. The project followed a human-centered design approach, combined practices and theories of multiple disciplines and involved participatory design methods, leading to the development of a toolbox to understand traveller-local interactions that shall support tourism destinations in innovation-, strategy-, and transformation processes.
