Sowing curiosity for plants

Most people lack basic botanical knowledge due to urbanization, disconnection from the natural world, and inadequate education. Our limited understanding of plants results in a low willingness to contribute to climate and biodiversity protection and uninformed policy and decision-making. A guide aims to help in the development of location-specific activities like workshops, displays, and artefacts. The goal is to alter people’s perceptions of plants, leading to a shift in personal perspective and relationship with them. The interventions seed curiosity to sprout and trigger future interest in, research on, and support of the vegetal. They aim to disseminate knowledge and promote a change in one’s relationship with plants by telling stories and opening reflections on plant-human relationships. The interventions are site-specific, adapt to various situations, including educational activities related to botanical content. This makes the application versatile and suitable for a wide range of stakeholders in the education field, such as museums, botanical gardens, conferences, and more. Our connection with plants influences our behavior. Changing the perception of the value of plants among the public is a crucial first step towards a more plant-informed society. It is essential to impart basic plant knowledge and encourage self-initiated interest.
