An asylum journey can feel like a winding mountain trail, full of twists and turns—from language barriers to emotional stress to social isolation. For those residing in rural Switzerland, the challenge grows with geographical distance and few community resources to support them. Locals might also struggle to connect, as co-ethnic communities are often missing. It leaves both sides unprepared for connections.
This project empowers rural communities and asylum seekers to overcome the «mountains» of social and environmental barriers on their journey toward mutual connection. Through workshops, interactive activities and toolkits, it positions the designer as a mediator, bridging the gap and fostering ongoing relationships between the two groups.
