Are individuals truly empowered to engage in the political process? Many are dissatisfied with politics, yet few take action. It is essential to involve diverse participants and consider how to facilitate engagement while identifying the necessary skills for meaningful participation.

To improve participation at various levels, Mariam-Sophie identified eight guiding principles: access, foundational trust, creating experience, community & group aspects, visibility of impact, self-efficacy, culture of participation and systemic implementation. She refined and tested the principles with stakeholders like the youth parliament in Luzern.
