Why
The aftermath of an earthquake presents many challenges for both locals and first responders. Often, people need to receive the necessary help in the first hours, which are the most important. This project addresses the need for immediate action in the early stages of a disaster.
What
The project Cues supports efficient coordination and prioritization in post-earthquake zones. It consists of tools that help send color-coded signals. The visual navigation system functions without a cell or internet connection, at night and in bad weather conditions.
How
Locals use the toolkit by placing the colorful plates on the ground to signal the help needed. Each color has a specific meaning. First responders use drones to collect data from affected areas and prioritise where to go.
For whom
This system connects residents with helpers. It allows locals to send signals and call for help directly and provides first responders with continuous data updates and cues for decision-making. This brings value to the government and society in dealing with the aftermath of a disaster.
Impact
Cues is a tool designed to improve the common good in times of crisis by connecting people, mitigating humanitarian crises, and reducing the costs of earthquake recovery. This system can positively impact resilience in earthquake-vulnerable regions.
