The Ladder of Ready-ing

Fostering Trust in Hybrid Multicultural Teams

This project explores how trust and emotional connection are built in multicultural hybrid teamsgroups made up of people from different cultures who work remotely and don’t share the same physical space. Rather than focusing only on cultural differences, the research investigates how the specific conditions of hybrid work, such as part-time schedules, digital communication tools, and the lack of informal interactions, impact the relationships and emotional well-being of team members.

Through interviews, observations, and reflective exercises, it became clear that many team members felt overwhelmed, especially after being away from work. They often didn’t know what they had missed, felt unsure about their role, or found meetings draining and disconnected.

Instead of adding another task to their busy days, this project aimed to help them get ready for the load they already carry. The result was the Ladder of Ready-ing, a simple, gentle tool made up of reflection prompts and cards that people can use before meetings. It helps them pause, notice how they’re feeling, and set an intention for how they want to show up.
