The Taste of Salt Before the Tears is a video artwork about remembering and forgetting –about trying to hold on to moments that will inevitably be lost to time. It stems from a lifelong struggle with a bad memory and the anxiety of forgetting moments while still living them.
The work continues a years-long practice of recording fragile moments through a camera lens, treating each scene the same to build a cohesive library of moments, and drawing on two years of personal archive footage to build a nonlinear narrative around the urgent feeling of trying to hold on.
Certain scenes are left empty, standing in for moments already forgotten or places lost to changed circumstances.
