Starting from the bed as a space between the private and the political, Where To Breathe by Sofie Berz investigates the ambivalence of rest. Her project reads female exhaustion as a societal issue shaped by patriarchal power relations, with the current system built upon it. One of its central aspects is deeply connected to safety: the constant awareness, vigilance and adaptations required to navigate a world shaped around male perspectives and norms. Spaces without access for men appear across cultures and systems, revealing a collective need for environments free from the male gaze that offer an escape from patriarchy. Focusing on how to rest within these constraints, Where To Breathe offers a room for rest while compiling historical and contemporary safe spaces for women in
Switzerland in a guidebook. In doing so, it proposes a temporary withdrawal from the system as a necessary option for recovery and survival within current structures.

Das Projekt blickt dabei auf die ständige Wachsamkeit, Vorsicht und die Anpassungen, die erforderlich sind, um sich in einer von männlichen Perspektiven und Normen geprägten Welt zu bewegen. Räume ohne Zutritt für Männer tauchen kultur- und systemübergreifend auf und verweisen auf ein kollektives Bedürfnis nach Orten des Rückzugs aus der patriarchalen Gesellschaft. Das Projekt schafft von weiblicher Erschöpfung betroffenen Personen einen Raum zur
Erholung und dokumentiert in einer Publikation gegenwärtige wie historische Räume ohne Männer in der Schweiz, die von alltäglichen, sozialen bis hin zu politisch engagierten Räumen reichen. Der Rückzug darin wird dabei nicht als Lösung, sondern als notwendige Möglichkeit zur Erholung innerhalb bestehender Strukturen verstanden.
