The Future of International Student Integration at Hochschule Luzern

This thesis explored the topic of international degree-seeking student (IDSS) integration and inclusion at Hochschule Luzern (HSLU). Research was conducted to answer the primary research question: “How do international degree-seeking students at HSLU experience the process of integration during their studies?” As well as sub-questions related to the experiences of faculty and the approach HSLU takes as an organization towards internationalization. With the end goal of exploring how the situation could be improved. The outcome of this thesis was twofold. Firstly, it highlights the need for further research concerning student engagement, motivation, and community. This must be done so that students can be equipped with the support they need to act for their own benefit and the benefit of their community. Secondly, more responsibility must be taken for institutional change regarding the international culture represented and practiced by HSLU. If HSLU claims to be an international school, this must be supported by its strategy, leadership, and management.
