As the Night Goes by, so Does the Dream

Superstition is deeply rooted in Ukrainian everyday life. Over sixty forms of superstition are actively practiced in Weronika’s family alone. In her book As the Night Goes by, so Does the Dream, she delves into her own ambivalence towards cultural behavioral patterns that provide stability but also dominate parts of her self. Her book explores how inherited belief systems shape identity, with a particular focus on women’s self-perception, relationships and societal roles. It becomes a journey between past and present, between comfort and constraint – a ref- lection on the ways cultural heritage continues to merge with our supposedly modern life.
