LIES YOU TELL deals with nostalgia and the attempt to reconstruct the past. Nostalgia is shaped by both past and present experiences. I noticed how these memories became a sanctuary during difficulties in the present moment, often provoked by consumer goods that held a connection to my childhood. This rediscovery of the past allowed me to look at something cherished and ultimately helped me navigate through the last three years. At the same time, I noticed that nostalgia was playing tricks on me, as I found myself chasing a feeling that also led me to spend money. LIES YOU TELL explores this ambivalence and through the photographs takes up the reconstruction of the past, just as our memories do.

LIES YOU TELL beschäftigt sich mit der Nostalgie und dem Versuch, die Vergangenheit zu rekonstruieren. Nostalgie wird sowohl durch vergangene als auch gegenwärtige Erfahrungen geprägt. Ich bemerkte, wie meine nostalgischen Erinnerungen in schwierigen Momenten der Gegenwart zu einem Zufluchtsort wurden, oft ausgelöst durch diverse Konsumgüter, die eine Verbindung zu meiner Kindheit hatten. Diese Wiederentdeckung der Vergangenheit liess mich auf etwas Positives blicken und half mir letztlich durch die letzten drei Jahre. Gleichzeitig bemerkte ich, dass die Nostalgie mich austrickste. Ich rannte einem Gefühl hinterher, welches mich dazu brachte, Geld dafür auszugeben. LIES YOU TELL untersucht diese Ambivalenz und greift durch die Fotografien die Rekonstruktion der Vergangenheit auf, ähnlich wie unsere Erinnerungen es tun.
