Zwei Aspekte normierender Machtstrukturen aus Michel Foucaults Buch «Überwachen und Strafen» (1975) – das Prinzip der ständigen Überwachung sowie der Nutzung für eigene Zwecke – überträgt Matthias Pfammatter auf das Verhältnis des Menschen zu Wildtieren. Das Videoessay «Die Disziplinierung der Tiere» untersucht, inwiefern der Mensch durch beobachtende Kameras das Leben von Wildtieren zu kontrollieren und regulieren sucht. Die Rauminstallation «Canis lupus lupus» zeigt eine Wölfin im digitalen Raum und hinterfragt die auf das mediale Konsumspektakel reduzierte Vorstellung von Wildtieren.

Matthias Pfammatter transfers two aspects of normative power structures from Michel Foucault’s book «Discipline and Punish» (1975) – the principle of constant surveillance as well as the use for one’s own purposes – to the relationship of humans to wild animals. The video essay «The Disciplining of Animals» examines the extent to which humans seek to control and regulate the lives of wild animals through observing cameras. The spatial installation «Canis lupus lupus» shows a wolf in digital space and questions the idea of wild animals reduced to the spectacle of media consumption.
