While AI is often presented as autonomous and technologically neutral, it depends on the repetitive and low-paid work of millions of data workers performing tasks such as content moderation, data labelling, and dataset cleaning. The installation AI Colonialism and the Hidden Workers makes that hidden labor visible. Combining global labor platform data with workers lived experiences, it examines labor exploitation as a dimension of AI Colonialism. Through spatial and affective visualization, it brings these hidden workers into the room, making the human costs behind AI systems visible and emotionally perceptible.

Während KI oft als autonom und technologisch neutral dargestellt wird, basiert sie auf der repetitiven und unterbezahlten Arbeit von Millionen Datenarbeiter*innen, die Aufgaben wie Content Moderation, Data Labeling und Data Cleaning übernehmen. Die Installation AI Colonialism and the Hidden Workers rückt diese verborgene Arbeit ins Bewusstsein. Durch die Verbindung globaler Daten von Arbeitsplattformen mit den Erfahrungen von Arbeiter*innen untersucht sie die Ausbeutung als Dimension von KI-Kolonialismus. Räumliche und affektive Visualisierungen bringen die unsichtbaren Arbeiter*innen in den Raum und machen die menschlichen Kosten hinter KI-Systemen sichtbar und emotional erfahrbar.
