Die Bildinstallation machine gaze stellt das Wesen und die Praxen rund um operative, post-fotografische Bilder in Frage und zeigt, wie sehende Maschinen die Welt wahrnehmen. Ohne moralischen oder dystopischen Zeigefinger plädiert sie für ein steigendes Bewusstsein rund um den maschinellen Blick und das Potenzial operativer Bilder. Die Installation besteht aus diversen Exponaten, welche aus vernetzten Bildpraxen entstanden sind. Es sind Untersuche des technologischen Einflusses auf unsere virtuellen Lebensräume, die einen Bogen von der Transformation zwischen analog und digital, über das Sezieren des Gigabildes Google Street View, bis zum KI-generierten Stammbaum eines digitalen Vogels spannen.

Whether in the form of surveillance, the collection and transmission of sensitive data, or hash or geotags in the metadata of smartphone images, the digital image is increasingly becoming an image that tracks, scans, and categorizes us, and we have long since acquired a data body in addition to our physical body.

The image installation machine gaze questions the nature and practice of operative, post-fotographic images and shows how seeing machines perceive the world. Without wagging a moral or dystopian finger, it pleads for a growing awareness of the machine gaze and the potential of operative images. The installation consists of various exponents which have emerged from networked image practices. They are investigations into the technological influence on our virtual living spaces, spanning from the transformation between analog and digital, to the dissection of the Google Street View image, to the AI-generated pedigree of a digital bird.
