Sensational Wood

Awakening the senses through sustainable, tactile wooden interfaces.

Simon transforms sustainable wood into expressive, sensory interfaces that respond to touch, breath, and movement, in collaboration with Christopher Dreimol from the Wood Materials Science group at ETH Zurich. Using IC-LIG, a bio-based innovation that makes wood electrically conductive, he merges natural haptics with digital outputs such as sound, light, vibration, and scent. His emotionally engaging prototypes, developed for fields like music therapy, interior design, and exhibitions, foster a deeper connection with ourselves and our surroundings. This work reimagines our relationship with technology, shifting from plastic- and metal-based electronics toward biodegradable, tactile interfaces that awaken the senses and inspire a more human-centered, planet-conscious design future.
