In my practical bachelor thesis, I have focused on the Endurance Expedition from 1914 to 1916 under the command of Sir Ernest Shackleton. The goal of the 28 crew members was to cross Antarctica from sea to sea. Unfortunately, their ship named Endurance got stuck in ice in the Weddell Sea and eventually sunk. After death-defying boat journeys and land crossings, all crew members made it back alive to civilization.

I wanted to retell this fascinating survival story in some sort of a web application. This ended up being a webcomic in which the story unfolds on a horizontal canvas and is navigated through scrolling. All paintings were created in Adobe Photoshop with a graphic tablet.

In meiner Abschlussarbeit befasste ich mich mit der Endurance Expedition von 1914 bis 1916 unter der Leitung von Sir Ernest Shackleton. Die 28-köpfige Crew hatte das Ziel, die Antarktis von Meer zu Meer zu überqueren. Jedoch ist ihr Schiff namens Endurance im Weddell-Meer festgefroren und schlussendlich gesunken. In mehreren waghalsigen Bootsfahrten und Landüberquerungen konnte die Crew wieder zurück zur Zivilisation finden.

Diese faszinierende Überlebensgeschichte wollte ich mit einer Webapplikation vermitteln. Schlussendlich ist daraus ein Webcomic entstanden, welcher durch horizontales Scrollen im Webbrowser angeschaut werden kann. Alles Bildmaterial ist dabei mit Adobe Photoshop mithilfe eines Grafiktablets gemalt worden.
