Alcools

La poésie comme contrainte

DE

What happens when I force myself to work with a certain amount of already composed text fragments? How do I manage to translate them into images? In my work, I have dealt with the poetry book » Alcools» by Guillaume Apollinaire. On the one hand, I used the texts as a constraint, but at the same time as a source of inspiration for a reinterpretation. My working process was influenced by it, and so was the final interpretation of each piece. With my large-format drawings, I tried to interact with the modernity and fantasy that Apollinaire conveys in his poems. Over time, images emerged that speak of memory, nostalgia and escapism. Drawings that echo to » Alcool’s » poems and contain their fragments.
