Shared fashion in Switzerland

How can a clothing rental service become a sustainable option for Swiss teenagers and young adults?

The massive production and consumption of fashion products result in negative social and environmental impacts. In response, as part of the emerging sharing economy, clothing rental services have appeared to offer a sustainable alternative to traditional fashion consumption. The purpose of this study was to analyze how a clothing rental service in Switzerland, specifically serving teenagers and young adults, could become a sustainable alternative to fast fashion and how such business could follow a circular business model.

The goal was to create a system that responds to current consumer’s needs such as variety and novelty in clothing and efficient services. Moreover, in order to implement a sustainable system, environmental, social, and economic impacts have to be considered. A collaborative partnership with brands enables to create a circular system that makes the most out of the resources, improves employee’s working conditions, and ensures economic stability.
