This week a new group of students has started the MSc in International Financial Management. For the fifth time, this internationally oriented programme welcomed students from over ten different nations at the Institute of Financial Services Zug IFZ. During the introduction week, students received general information about the flexibility of the programme and had a great opportunity to get to know their classmates.
Apart from receiving general information on the programme the very first morning, students took part in a management game. Within the game they could prove their skills to minimize production costs of a shipbuilding company while keeping an eye on product quality and delivery reliability. In addition to the exciting learning experience with this business simulation, students got to know each other. The tension of being a new student loosened quickly during the game.
At another chance, students were informed about exchange semester opportunities abroad. Due to the flexible time models of the MSc IFM, an exchange semester can be easily integrated into the programme. Another presentation about “Swissness” offered insights to foreign students about the specialties of the Swiss culture. A further highlight of the introduction week was a Treasure Hunt taking place in the city of Zug. Different riddles were placed in a manner as students were able to explore the whole city. An aperitif as a little award for their efforts on the Treasure Hunt made the day perfect.
The last day of the introduction week was all about “Challenges in studying, working and living in a multicultural environment”. The students discussed in small groups interesting topics as for example what respect means in different cultures. Overall, the introduction week was an ideal opportunity for the students to get ready for the programme and to share their expectations regarding the upcoming challenges of the MSc IFM.
