IFZ InsurTech Report 2025

IFZ InsurTech Report 2025

The IFZ InsurTech Report provides an in-depth view of the Swiss InsurTech ecosystem. The fourth edition of the Report marks a meaningful evolution both in its scope and in its focus. In this edition, we concentrate exclusively on InsurTech companies with clear focus in the Swiss market, including both domestic and international players. This enables a more comprehensive and in-depth profiling of all 172 companies covered. In addition, we introduce a dedicated thematic deep dive, and this year we have focused on the experience and view of InsurTech companies on blockchain in insurance. Last, we have initiated a collaboration with the Swiss InsurTech Hub (SIH) to be closer to the InsurTech community.

Seven key takeaways

The analysis of the data and of the interviews conducted can be summarized with the following seven insights:

  • The number of InsurTechs active in the Swiss market continues to grow, now reaching 172 companies total and with 15 new entrants in 2025.
  • There is a significant international footprint in Switzerland, with more than a quarter of the companies in the sample headquartered abroad.
  • Marketing & Distribution is a local play, driven by customer expectations as well as regulatory, language, and market requirements.
  • The main focus is on core insurance functions, with 70% of the companies in the sample active in core insurance processes.
  • Significant activities also in infrastructure, with 70% of the companies also providing solutions supporting more general, infrastructure processes.
  • InsurTech is an international community. Five out of six Swiss InsurTechs are also active outside Switzerland.
  • Blockchain remains an important enabling technology, supporting both data quality and cross-company transactions.

Swiss InsurTechs remain a vibrant community

The Swiss InsurTech community remains healthy, showing both longevity among existing companies and several new entrants. The community remains very well integrated internationally, with the majority of Swiss companies active also abroad. Several non-Swiss companies are also part of the Swiss ecosystem. Companies tend to target both core and non-core insurance functions with their solutions. However, Swiss companies tend to be more focused in only one of these than their international counterparts. In the deep dive topic on blockchain, experts confirmed the unmet high expectations for blockchain in insurance. However, they also pointed to several cases where blockchain can provide a critical enabling platform for the industry. Thus, InsurTechs remain a dynamic, focused and well-connected source of technology-driven innovation for the Swiss insurance industry.
